BEWARE OF FAKE DE ROSA FRAMES

I purchased a 'De Rosa' King 3 from eBay and it has been a real eye opener. The advert said it was a 'real' frame and its serial number could be registered for full warranty. Additionally the bike 'shop' was located in the UK, not Asia, so I felt pretty comfortable purchasing the frame through the 'Buy it Now' feature of eBay. The frame arrived damaged, which is how I discovered it was a fake.

However, it looks authentic in almost every respect.

To make a long story short, the frame was found to be a counterfeit. Mr. De Rosa himself asked me to send it to his factory, to use in his investigation to stop this practice. He offered me a 'real' one in exchange. Now that is really amazing. I help him and he helps me back. That is impressive !

So beware there are FAKE De Rosa's out there.

I buy a cheap fake King 3, send it to Kenny De Rosa and he sends me a genuine one in return?

" if you need any more information please contact me at " :?:

Why not just post all the information? Ending your post ' and they all lived happily ever after ' may have been more apt.

It's your own fault for buying from the bay, you should have done through the proper channels and bought from an authorised dealer imo ... there are fake De Rosas, fake Colnagos, fake Pinarellos, tell us something we don't know, op has one post on here, troll alert ...

There's one or two people with fake Pinarello's around, maybe they should try contacting Pinarello and asking for a nice new frame :lol:

I suspect that our friend cycledave is either a disgruntled bike shop owner or works for i-ride.
  • Hi I am a bit upset by the posts I have received in response to mine. Firstly, I posted this to warn you that so called REAL frames are not necessarily so. The eBay listing said I could register the frame with de Rosa for warranty, etc, so it all seemed on the up and up and the price wasn't ridiculously low like the $1000 Pinarello's. I was duped and cheated. (Carbonframes in the UK...was their eBay name) Secondly, at the time I was happy De Rosa asked me for my frame to help him in his investigation. However, after so many months and excuses, I am now getting concerned that De Rosa is not as up front as he seems as well. He still has not sent me back my original frame, nor produced a new one in return. If you want the email thread between De Rosa and I, I have it, but not sure I will share it until I find out what De Rosa's intentions are, as it contains the actual address and name of the seller, etc. and he says this is with his legal people. After I know, I will share it with anyone who asks.

I'd consult a solicitor if I were you.

  • Hmmm. I thought a swop of a fake with a new legit De Rosa frameset would not really happen.

I know that if you take what you believe to be a legit Rolex for a service and Rolex examine it and it is a fake they destroy it, keep your service fee and that is that.

I am unsure what comeback you have with De Rosa in this case, be interested to know though. I wouldn't hold your breath as it appears some companies run a merry dance even with legit frames with a legit warranty. good luck.

If this story is indeed true, and it does sound a bit more realistic now that you haven't got a shiny new De Rosa, then I must admit I feel a bit sorry for you.

You've been double screwed. First by the ebay seller and now by De Rosa.
  • Yes I agree, however there is a fake De Rosa for twenty-four quid on ebay now if you fancy a punt?

  • I am looking to buy a Colnago C40 HP from a forum member. I would like to know what should I look for, and where, to make sure that the frame and fork are genuine? Also the frame series, where is it placed? I am asking these questions, as I have heard, there are fake frames on the market, the so-called Chilnagos.

and dont have any frames for sale. Mate of mine bought a "ritchey" carbon seat post off ebay a couple of weeks back, few rides in snapped clean in half about 3 inches under the saddle, had a lucky escape. Had to ride last 10 miles home standing up. Cant remember the seller on ebay but it had loads of feedback and the guy admitted it was a fake after being threatend with legal action and got a refund. So much fake 5hite on there, anything carbon of important I would rather pay the price for the real deal and feel safer dropping down a hill at 50mph and have a few less quid in my pocket.

I wonder what De Rosa did the fake frame that was posted to them. Any ideas? Odd.
