Fitting a shim to a steerer tube query

Hi All,

What are your thoughts on adding a shim to a steerer tube to allow fitting of a 1.5 stem to a 1.125 tube?

Smart/crazy/thoughts?

    often done with 1" and 1 1/8th stems. On road bikes.

    I would get the right size fork or stem.
