A fairly straight forward question I hope but can I use my current SRAM Red chainset with Campag Record/Super Record 11?

I currently have Campag Centaur 10 on my summer bike which 'needs' upgrading having served me well for 4 years and over 10,000 miles and I run a SRAM Red chainset as they were one of the few company's to do a 165mm length crank arm which is needed due to the bend in my right knee being limited to only 105 degrees. If it is compatible then I was looking to upgrade a component a month whilst my summer bike is in hibernation over winter.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • I don't think so as the 11x chain is narrower than the 10x. All is not lost as FSA make Shimano compatable 11 speed rings in 110 and 130 so you could just fit new rings

Thanks for the reply. I will probably just upgrade to Record 10 if that's the case as i'm not really too bothered about 11 speed. I was just a bit worried that replacement parts for 10 speed would become more difficult to come by as 11 speed becomes more common as well as the release of their electronic shifting which I'm definitely not buying into just yet.
  • Campag are still producing 10x groups but Record is 11 only now. Lever spares are available manufacturers will make rings (TA etc) there'll be years of 10x availability.

Plenty of people run 11 speed transmission with a 10 speed chainset - the chain is 0.4mm narrower so front shifts won't be quite as sharp.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Campag do a 165mm option these days as well. Might be the easier and cheapest when you buy a group.
