SRAM x9 2009-2010 generation (newbie)

Hi all.

I'm looking to buy a 2009 bike with SRAM x9 shifters & derailleurs.
From checking sites, there seems to be some generation change with the x9 shifters & derailleurs around 2010- TRUE?
If so, is there any big difference between the 2009 version and today's version?
I think the 2010 x7 is the same as the 2009 x9 while the 2010 x9 isn't changed much.
The sites I read did mention a big improvement between the early 2000s versions and the 2008 version.

any info? Please correct any mistakes I wrote! What keywords should I use so I can do my own searching?

They did change but they are all cross compatable (all 9 speed bits will fit 9 speed, but not 10 speed and vice versa). I think there is some improvement in the new versions but it's not significant.
