suntour epicon bolt through axle

can any one help ? when taking my wheel of yesterday to get into the car, a spacer and circlip popped out of the left side of the axle, imanaged to refit it but lost it some where ont the trails at sherwood, does this spacer and circlip actually do anything because it only goes on to the thread of the axle and the fact that it just pooped out when undoing the thread, i cant see it holding the axle in, can any one shed some light?62275909_photobucket_33172_.jpg
also does the red part look how its suppose to? not sure if i had put it back correctly even though it seems o.k

    Circlips only there so you can't wind it outwards too far and off the thread. (thats just what i've gathered when i managed it)

    As for the red thingy , if you've loosened it off enough when you pop it through the fork you shouldnt be able to pull it back out again without pressing on the silver/grey nut. You just need to make sue its loose enough when it goes through and it locks itself into place.
