Ageing clinchers

I've heard a few times about the benefits of ageing tubs to increase their performance (Armstorng's man in Europe had years' worth in his "wine" cellar).

I was just wondering about a couple of sets of clinchers that have been sitting around in my cellar. Will their quality degrade as opposed to improving?

Most tyres these days use synthetic polymers - 'ageing' only works for vulcanised rubber
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
