Evening,

I'm struggling to get a lower cup form a Yeti DJ 2010 frame. Using a park tool removal tool, however can;t get into the narrow gap between the taper step and the top of the cup.

Any suggestions?

Bolt a couple of big washers onto the end of a threaded rod...

An axle from a cup 'n cone hub can be used as the threaded rod if you don't have one on hand.

If you find it too short to knock out the headset cup from the top then attack it from the bottom: bolt washers onto both ends of the rod (so that it resembles a weight lifting barbell), hook the washer at one end onto the internal lip of the headset cup; place an adjustable spanner onto the washer at the other and whack the spanner with a hammer.

Threaded rods and big washers can be purchased from Wickes and builders merchants.

After you finish with the headset cup "extractor", you can convert it into a home-made headset press if you have some big enough washers.
