Broken Right Ultegra Shifter
Hi. I have an old (ST-6500 from what I can read from the shifter) 9 speed ultegra gearset.
After a very gentle small topple off my bike today, my right hand shifter has stopped working. To put it simply, the downshifter sticks to the upshifter, so I cant change down without holding the upshifter in place, then pressing the downshifter!
Sadly sadly I went for a repair job myself, and have now left myself without even a front brake! I took off the upshifter and a couple of springs fell out, and I cant retension then to replace them.
Is anyone around London who is able to repair this (LBS or a forum member!), let me know what the cost is likely to be, or if its easier to just replace it. Not really up for going for Tiagra, as I like the long lever which can be changed from right down in the drops. What are 105 shifters like?
Desperate to do this as cheaply as possible, and by keeping ultegra (or better!) if possible.
Cheers

Just a thinking outside the box solution for you, campag 11 speed shifters apparently work with shimano 9 speed. They are cheaper, lighter and you get hidden cables but it could be perceived as bit of a risk.0

Amazing - certainly happy to think outside the box. Will start a thread. Keen to find out if there is a solution to the current problem though.
Thanks!0 -
http://www.norvil.net/pedal/service/shi ... emoval.php Click on the link for Ultegra in the bottom, right corner of the page for complete instructions. Also try Ebay for single 6500 levers.0

I have seen that link but it only has partial dissassembly, and then the full dissassembly is for the left hand one.
I know its close, but I am ideally looking for the exact guide if possible!
eBay doesn't have an abundance of levers, but i'm keeping my eye out!0 -
Hi there,
If you do need to replace the entire shifter, 9 speed Tiagra has the long lever which can be changed from the drops (maybe you are thinking of Sora?)0 -
If you have the patience to wait for delivery, I can recommend this book.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zinn-Art-Road-B ... 247&sr=1-1
It shows you how to completely strip down and rebuild all the most common shifters. There's warp speed - then there's Storck Speed0 -
IME STIs are nigh on impossible to service - they use too many unnecessarily small and fragile parts - tried it a few times and they were all binned. I'd try and find a replacement lever via wanted ads / ebay.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
