Rear shock "Pedal Bob" - how do I stop it?

Hi.
I've just been given a 1999 Trek VRX 200 (My 1st full suspension bike), which has a Fox Vanilla rear shock. I seem to get horrendous pedal bob and I'm assuming it's due to the rear shock. It all seems to function correctly but I'm a slip of a 16 stone creature and, though it doesn't bottom out, there's loads of movement when pedalling hard.
My riding is single track, tame, pedal-hiking so there's no hard punishment there!
My question is, do i need to replace the shock? and can I / should I just replace the shock unit with one of the same length (Hole to hole) or would a stiffer spring sort the issue?
Are there any fairly low cost recommends out there? or better still, shock units?
Many thanks

An air shock, with some sort of pedaliing platform will help.
How much sag are you getting at the minute?0 -

Fanx for the quick reply . . . .
Not measured the sag, though I've wound up the spring a good way.
What is a "pedalling platform?"0 -
Too see if you need a stiffer spring, measure the sag.
Pedalling platform is a damper that slows the shcok down, reducing pedal induced bob.0 -
I sent my old coil vanilla to TFTuned, (several years ago). They put a new spring on it for my weight, pedalplatform tuned for my weight and riding style. Cost around £80 then.
it's a lovely shock, I prefer coil to air.--
