Hi There,

After using my magicshine light for a good years night riding, the standard battery which came in the set won't hold it's charge for more than about half an hour so I'm looking at a new one.

I have the older version of this: http://www.magicshineuk.co.uk/products/Magicshine-bike-light-set-MJ-808LSET

with the series 1 battery: http://geomangear.com/images/Photos/series1bat.jpg

I am looking at this for a replacement: http://www.bestofferbuy.com/magicshine-4pcs-18650-lithium-battery-cell-mj828-p-66446.html?currency=GBP

My question is, would this new battery work with my light head?

Thanks,

Reevie25

  • Hello
I haven’t got any personal experience with these lights and batteries, but both batteries are 8.4volts and I would think that the connections are the same being that they are both Magicshine products. (Worst case if the connections are different you can cut them off and swop them over. Solder crimp, tape etc).

    I've used all sorts from 5 x AAs (7.5v) 6 x rechargeable nicad AAs (7.2v) I'm now on pairs of loose 18650 li-ion batteries.

The original battery pack is rated at 8.4v so any DC voltage in this region will do the job.

Oh, I've spent a small fortune at Maplin and ebay on electrical bits (battery boxes, connectors).
  • Thanks people,

I think I'll order it. If it doesn't work I should be able to send it back or bodge it somehow.

Reevie25, I've got the original MagicShine light like yours with that original battery pack. Then the battery pack exploded a couple of weeks ago while it was sitting on the kitchen table and it wasn't even on charge. I had charged it a few days before and it was just sitting there, then it went around the room like a firework and covered the kitchen in black soot and molten copper splattered around.
I've now brought that new battery pack you linked too, but I paid much more off eBay :x
It fits fit and is much better than the original. My light lasts much longer. Not tested yet how long as its lasting throughout the ride. I'm planning on timing it during the day after I've charged it up.
