Hi,

Just noticed today that my rear tyre (Rubino Pro) was looking the worst for wear, it's only been on since the beginning of summer probably having covered 4000k miles and has always been run at 110psi. To me it looks like a manufacturing defect, will I be able to get a replacement and if so does anyone know how I go about making a claim directly with Vittoria (note I can't remember if the tyre was bought from Ribble or High on Bikes)....?

  • i really dont think you would be able to claim warranty after running them for 4000 miles

Did I read that right - you want a warranty claim on a £20 tyre which has done 4000 miles..?

Either way, Vittoria will refer you to Chicken Cycles, and Chicken will refer you to your dealer - which you can't remember. I would just hang that tyre on the wall and buy another one.

On a £20 tyre is it even worth the time and hassle trying? :?

Ok when you put it like that it doesn't sound great, suppose that's why I posted here to get reasonable and sensible opinions.

However the previous rubino pro that came off the rear covered over twice the miles this one has and was evenly worn, this one is showing the canvas only in one area shown in the photo, every where else on the tyre it's got plenty of life left in it...

One other point I should make is just the other week that the tyre wasn't showing these signs of wear, it's literally just appeared after the last 2 rides I've done (aprox 150miles) which is why I'm sure it's a manufacturing defect.

Also I have receipts from both suppliers which is why I can't be certain who it came from...

You could take a different approach and feedback your experience to Vittoria (http://www.vittoria.com/contacts/write-us/), you never know they may send you a freebie for your trouble. Cost, 5 - 10 minutes of your time.

Just send them here for the photo and they should get the hint

Not for nothing, but that just looks like a worn out tyre. Have you ever skidded to a stop? That'll wear the rubber unevenly. Eventually it's gonna wear our and the threads will show through (like in your pic). It happens.
  • 4000k miles since the summer? Well done that man.

The tyre's just worn out though.
  • Wow! 4000 miles. You on an economy drive, Zoid? ;)

I only got 1700 miles this summer before I wore a hole in the rear ProRace Nitro that came fitted on the bike.

Must be the power of my hairy little legs lighting-up the tarmac... :)

Just checked my Garmin 500 records, since first using it on the 31st July to the end of August I covered 1208.48 miles, I know I've done similar rides in June and July (plus 567.95 miles in September) which gives me an approximate 4000 miles, btw I don't think it's anything special it's just that I've had lots of time on my hands!

Also don't know how much difference it would make but I only weigh in at around 60kg, I assume being fairly light it helps to extend tyre life?
  • Well you might want to check your tyre pressures. Uneven wear suggests that the pressures are wrong. 60kg and 110psi in your front tyre might mean that the contact patch is very small thereby concentrating the wear in the middle "bulge".

That said, I'm with the others that say that 4000 miles seems reasonable.
