Time I-clic Bearing problems

My i-clics have done about 1000 miles (mostly dry riding too!). One pedal sounds like the grease/bearings are running dry and the other locks solid until you rotate it a few times. I get the impression that this is quite common with TIme pedals. The question is, has anyone succesfully serviced them? How do you access the bearings (where can you get the correct tools)?
