hi all i'm looking for my first winter trainer with a good mudguard clearance between 700 x 25 tyre and mudguard as i dont want to have to keep stopping and cleaning out the mud that i'd pick up off the country lanes i mainly ride on.so would a road bike like a ribble audax be suitable or would a cyclo cross like a planet x uncle john be more suitable? or could you recommend any others.budget £1000.many thanks

  • A road bike will be fine - 99% of my riding is unclassified lanes (plus the odd canal towpath and bridleway), on different road bikes with 23-25c tyres and mudguards and only the odd issue with mud/branches getting caught up on particularly bad/wet days
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos
  • thanks for that slow
  • The Genesis Equilibrium is well worth a look at
  • Kinesis T2 is another to look at

get a cross bike with disk brakes, *much* better in muddy/wet conditions than rim brakes

you can get a 2011 genesis croix de fer for under a grand at the moment...
