Pearson Touche for CX?

Have a Pearson touche fixed that I thought about using for CX this year as I don't want to have to shell out for another bike. Iwas thinking of flipping the hub to single speed(48/20) taking off the mudguards and fitting CX tyres. Will there be enough clearance for 32 or 35 tyres?

Given it's a fairly niche bike you're probably better of measuring it, isn't 48x20 a bit ambitious for cross?

the calipers might give you some problems in muddier races...

48x20 will be fine if planning on plenty of dismounts and running. I've ridden courses where you needed 34x25 on the flat!

I doubt the Touche has big enough clerance for even a 28 road tyre.

Give the guys at Pearson a call. I know them well and they'd be more than happy to advise. Or even better, visit their brand spanking new store, though I assume if you are from Glasgow that might be quite a trek!
  • cheers for the input. Tried calling but couldn't get through to the workshop. Will try again today.

A clubmate has one - it does have a long drop caliper so should be OK for 28mm but a 32mm with mud clearance is highly unlikely - on very dry / sandy you might get away with it, but the smallest amount of mud would soon pack under the caliper and bring you to a halt. (Rode P-Rx one year with naff-all clearances and had to stop every secteur to clear the mud)
