Is my Front Wheel the right way round?

This might sound a silly question, but I think it's best to check...

I have just installed some new Fulcrum Racing 3 wheels and got slightly confused about which way round to mount the front wheel. Only because I noticed that there is more of the axle showing on one side of the hub than the other. I decided to put the quick release lever on this side. Only after my first ride am I now wondering if this was correct or if there actually is a 'right way round' for a front wheel???

  • There is if you have crossed spokes, but if you have radial pattern, then there isn't...

Labels andf logos might give you a clue of the way it was intended to be

    +1

also if it's rim brakes, the outside spokes face backwards, as opposed to facing forward (used on wheels with disk brakes)

just confirmed with the wheels I built (i could have been wrong) and me missus's mavic wheels (built by mavic, I hope they know what they are doing)

I'd have thought for a front wheel with radial spokes should be completely symmetrical and go either way round.

If you have more axle at one side it means there's less at the other; I'd want to sort that out.
  • Adjustable lockring on the non-drive side. Should be equal axle on each side though.
  • It doesn't matter on your Fulcrum 3's.

If I remember correctly there is an adjustment screw on the side of the hub (I know there is on the rear, can't remember on the front), I'd put this non drive side so it matches the rear.

Usually the ridiculous 'Warning - Inappropriate use may result in injury or death' sticker is on one side of the wheel so I make sure it's on the same side front and rear. Otherwise just make sure your QR lever is on the non drive side and you're done.

Yes there is and that explains why it looks like more axle is showing... I will just match it up with the rear

  • Sorry to ask a simple question, but aren't most tyres directional now?, I always check the direction of rotation marked on the tyre, just in case the QR has ended up the wrong side.

Tread on road tyres has pretty well zero function - the pressure of the tyre on the road is too high for it to make any difference.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
