Hello, i'm new to this road biking lark and i've just done my first ride this morning, 40 mile in the wind and the rain and i cant believe how much i enjoyed it, best thing iswhen i finished all it took was a quick hose down and lube which only took 5 minutes, not the usual hour with my MTB.
What i want to know is ,i have a 2x 20 Ultegra transmission and the front shifter takes 3 clicks to change into the bigger ring properly, first click it moves but not far enough to shift up, second click it changes up but the chain rubs on the mech if i'm in a high gear at the back, and 3rd click is in the right place, all i want to know is this normal. Cheers

  • Pretty sure it is as the i think the shifters are designed so they can be used with a triple fron mech you should be able to do the shift in one motion if you do a slightly longer push on the lever.
  • Pull the rubber cover back on the left hand shifter

look for the part number stamped on it

if its a double it will be a model 6600

if its a triple it will be a 6603

dont forget that shimano have a click in between called the trim function which allows a small amount of movement to stop chain rub on the front mech

Don't adjust it's supposed to you might even find a 4th click if you try.

It has 1/2 clicks to move the front mech to clear the chain when using extreme of gears, when your on small chain ring and small cog at the back give it the half click to stop rubbing. Next click should take you on to big ring but more suited to larger cogs at rear, you may find another click past this that is for big chain ring and small rear.

    HTH :D
