Just built a new frame up, moved my compact etc to it, and a new 5600 double mech

it's all setup as per the shimano setup instructions and its a new ultegra chain, it shifts off the 50 t ring but seems to drop onto the inner side plates on the 34 t and if I shiuft the rear into a lower gear it engages with the 34 t ring properly.

I get no drive with it in this limbo position and it saounds awful.

anyone got any ideas? the setup was fine on my other frame with a triple mech adjusted to suit the compact.

Front mech lower stop needs to be adjusted slightly inboard
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I dont have an answer, I have exactly the same problem (and I mean exactly) with a Campag Compact chainset, medium cage derailleur and a 13 -29 cassette. I presumed it was a problem with, at the moment of shifting the front mech, the chain loses tension and the rear derailleur either taking up all the slack or not taking up enough, if this makes sense? just a thought. The 'workaround' is as you say to then shift at the rear but it took me a good while to work this out and on a hill its not a nice feeling spinning

What cassette ratio are you using out of interest?

An 11-28 105 cassette, it was fine on my old frame.

Will try adjusting the lower stop further in away from the chain, it's set to just miss it as shimano says to, typical.

Before I went out earlier I took all the tension off the cable, adjusted it as close as i could to the chain without noise and bingo it's fixed, drops straight onto the 34t no problem now.

    thanks monty dog
