I was wondering if anyone knew how the pros sunglasses stay to well when slotted into their helmets. Mine don't seem to stay in very well. Is this becuase the sunglasses have to be compatible to fit in the helemet?

Or am I simply missing something?

Regards,

Liam

  • Why is everyone so worried about what the pros do these days? I've never had sunglasses stay in my helmet slots well either, but it's not important.

And I highly doubt there are compatible sunglasses and helmet slot systems, silliest thing i've heard.

Until you're a pro, you're not allowed to do this.

    It's the rules, i'm afraid.

Depends on the helmet. With some, the glasses stay where they should if you put the arms in upside down, with others the right way up will keep them in place. I assume that there are also others which will not hold the glasses at all. That's why jerseys have pockets.

If the pros lose their specs on a 40mph descent and run over them, they probably get another pair from their sponsor.

Mine go in a jersey pocket on those rare occasions they aren't on my head!
  • I get glasses that fit my head reasonably well. You could get one of those band things so if they do fall off they won't end up under your wheels.
  • mine fit quite well into my helmet.....turn them upside down and slide them into the slots that are slightly wider than the arms of the glasses

If you wear a cap they sit safely and securely on the brim.
  • Thanks for the comments, I'll give it another try, but mine don't seem to want to stay in.

Not worried about what the pros are doing. It's just think it'd be easier to slot them in the helmet rather than putting it in my jersey pocket, and risk scratching them with all the other stuff floating around in there.

Rudy make helemets and sunglasses.........so would it be such a stretch to think they might, on one level or another, have models that are compatible with each other, for a secure fit? The same goes for Giro.

Just depends on the glasses/helmet combination you have.

My Bell Sweep helmet seems to fit the Radars and Jawbones perfectly.

I personally hook mine into the inside of my jersey at the front, or put them on my head (thanks to lack of helmet). They don't get scratched on my chest hairs, but they can get a bit steamed up.
  • Kask Vertigo and Jawbones are a perfect combo.

Put them backwards on your neck, upside down, where the adjustable part of your helmet is.

    This.

Also last years new rudy project helmet (not the one liquigas are using in the vuelta) has glasses ports.

My radars won't go into my Sine thesis properly.

LOl, nah i'm having a really good day actually. Just don't understand why all of a sudden so many "how do the pros......." threads have popped up.
  • My Bolle Warrants fit perfectly into the slots on my Rudy lid, purely a fluke of course, I didn't consider this when buying either.

Mine fit into my jersey pocket fantastically.

No way am i slotting some £200 oakleys into my helmet to get lost when they drop off. Jersesy pocket all the way.

Oh, and make sure it's the pocket without anything in to scratch the lenses.
  • I have Rudy Poject Sterling + Genetyk, once you put them in upside down and straighen out the adjustable earpieces - yes the glasses fit perfectly. Or if you don't want to have to adjust the earpieces they fit securely into the eywear dock but its more towards top of the helmet than flush against the rim at the front, i have Oakleys which also fit like this securely (in the eyewear dock that is).
  • Oakley Flak Jacket + Specialized Prevail = Upside down on the back of helmet just above exhaust ports.

    Perfect fit
  • Believe it or not, the holes on helmets aren't there for sun glasses. :D

I don't think I've ever put my glasses in my pocket. Or on my jersey collar. Pretty much on my face 99% of the time.

That's a point, I haven't had to take my radars off yet while riding, they're amazing. I only pop them on my head when I'm in the garage.

Can anyone tell I'm quite pleased with my new glasses.

As others have said, depends on the helmet and shades combination, but also the particular vents you try to wedge them into. Experiment with different vents, e.g. ones further to the side that might tension the stems more and make them stay securely.

If it works, it IS a really convenient place to put them when off the face! I don't stuff mine into the back pocket because I can never remember what else is there and there would be a high chance of scratching the lenses.

re: copying the pros - well, they do ride their bikes quite a lot so they are likely to have figured out what works and what doesn't.

Grrr, I've just done this with my Jawbones!! Never in pocket again.

Mine fit perfectly in my Giro Atmos and in a moment of madness I stuck them in a pocket that contained my iphone. Ironically the phone scratched the glasses.
