Sram Rival front mech trimming adjustment

Just changed from Shimano to Rival. I'm having problems with the front mech trimming. How do you adjust it? On Shimano I can trim the mech when in the small or big rings. Can I expect to do this with Sram? Adjustment with Shmano was just a case of cable tension.
Many thanks

Do you mean how do you trim the gears whilst riding or how do you adjust the trimming. If it's the latter there is a workshop article in this months cycling plus about setting up the front DR which describes how you do it. If you don't have it I'm sure they wouldn't mind me quoting it here.
  • IBoth! When riding in the big ring, if I tap the lever the front mech doesn't move/trim. If I tap the lever again it drops to the little ring. When riding in the little ring, if I tap the lever it doesn't move the mech slightly, it just shifts to the big ring. I'm comparing it to Shimano. However I don't think there is trimming in the little ring on Sram. The qustion is, how do I get it to trim when in the big ring?

Google for SRAM front mech trim and have a read. Looks like it's year and groupset dependent.
  • I might be getting the wrong end of the stick but to get the dérailleur to move the chain from the small ring to the big ring, you have to push the lever quite hard to the right - not just a tap.

I found it difficult get the trimming correct after my lbs serviced the bike.

    hope this helpshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38vdA5OOBxI

trim is year dependent, with current rival it's on the big ring only i think

are you sure the cable tension is ok? if the cable is too tight, it'll force the mech against the stop screw even in the trim position, i was setting up with new cables a few days ago, so i know if you go just a bit too tight it'll cause this
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • Thanks for your replies. I now realise that the trim is for big ring only. I slackened the cable off & now get the trim function. However, I find that the big ring doesn't need trimming, whereas the little ring does in order to get the second smallest cog (I realise I'll never get it to stop rubbing in the smallest)
