Im a complete and utter newbie when it comes to the mechanics of my bike however wanted a slightly bigger range of gears on my current cyclocross and from what i can see i need to get a triple chainset rather than the double i have on it at the moment.

Is this all i would need to do this or do i have to replace all sorts of things and also no idea what one i would need to get to be able to do this i will take it into a shop to get fitted etc but i was just looking to find out a bit more about it and see what im letting myself in for / can expect to shell out.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Unfortunately you need the appropriate left side shifter for a triple too... it's going to be an expensive swap... I suggest you look into a cassette with bigger sprockets as a cheaper alternative.
You should have a 36/46 at the front... with a 28-29 at the back you should be able to clear most climbs... alternatively you can look at MTB cassette (only for 9 speed)... but yu need a rear derailleur with a long cage... (still cheaper than chainset + shifter)

    Good luck
