frame size

im 5'10" i know a medium or 17or 18 inch frame is about right for my height but can anyone tell me whats the upside and down side of buying a frame thats to small or to big what effect will it have on my riding ilike going to Llandegla forrest wouldit affect my climbing or decending or both
falling off doesn't hurt....its the landing that hurts
