I'm about to buy this bike and I just noticed the bottom bracket is listed as "Shimano integrated press fit".

Am I right in thinking this is BB86?

I'm looking to fit a Sram Apex groupset at some point.. Could anyone tell me what BB adapter I'd need, if any, to take the Apex crankset?

Cheers!

you will need to use the Pressfit GXP. I believe this works in the same BB Shell as the shimano Press fits.

but check with the supplier/Giant dealer.

That seems to be the BB listed under the Apex groupset on the SRAM website.. However it seems to be a mountain bike bb going by the MTB stamped on the side..

    yep Giants are BB86

If you run SRAM then you'll need a GXP pressfit*, and they are rare beasts :?

Enduro used to do them - nice ones too, I have a ceramic one - but don't seem to stock them any more.

The MTB ones aren't what you want, as the BB unit is too wide for a road frame. They are actually BB92s  I've tried fitting the wiggle one (the photo that is) and had to trim the central barrel to get it to fit.

    * strictly speaking you only need a GXP on the nondriveside. The driveside is the same as the Shimano ones.

  • This sounds like a bit of a nightmare..

All seems a bit confusing.. If you go to the following link it shows the MTB bb on the apex page.

Don't think I've even seen a road version in my time searching :(

BB86 isn't complicated at all unlike BB30 which is an abomination to fit and maintain.
You can hear guys with BB30 fitted miles away 'creak, creak, creak'....
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
