Is my SRAM chainring wearing badly?
Hi,
I have recently noticed that some of the teeth on the big ring of my SRAM Force chainset seem to be worn down and not so pointy as the rest... It's done less than 2000 miles and I wondered if this is a sign of excessive wear? Or, having not really looked that closely at it before, is this part of the design?
My chain does come off occasionally when shifting up and I wondered if this may be the cause...

2000 miles is nothing, should be hardly any wear
the shifting issue is most like due to the front derailleur needing adjustment
btw, on many chainrings the teeth are not all the same, this is part of the design, it helps with shifting
the teeth on worn chainrings develop a shark's tooth profile, like...
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
+1 It's part of the design.
Strategically placed teeth have a different profile to the rest, and work together with the pins (you can see one in the pic above) to help the chain climb on / off the chainring when shifting.
You need to adjust the limit screws to prevent the over-shifting / dropped chain0 -
Thanks, I did have a feeling it would be a clever design feature to help shifting, but it's always best to ask0
