Hi,

I'd really appreciate some advice on compatibility of cassettes, rear mech and chains.
I've got a Specialised Tricross Triple Sport which has a Shimano Deore LX rear mech, Shimano CS HG50-9 11-32T cassette and HG73 9 speed chain. The chainrings are a 50-39-30 FSA triple.

I've fitted the bike with slicks and I've been using it exclusively as a road bike so I'm considering changing the cassette to something with closer spaced gearing options.
The "Shimano Tiagra Cassette 9 Speed HG50" 12-27T looks like a good choice to me but I'm not certain it's compatible with the existing components. Would this work okay?
Are all Shimano 9 speed components compatible? They're all for super narrow 9 speed chain, is there anything else I need to worry about?

Where tools are concerned, do I just need a chainwhip and cassette lockring tool?

Thanks for any guidance you can give me!

Aidan

Any current 9-speed Shimano or SRAM road cassette will fit a Shimano 9-speed drivetrain, provided the rear mech can absorb enough chain for the gear range you have. That's only really an issue moving from a narrower to a wider range cassette, so the Tiagra cassette will fit fine.
