road bike x mtb advice

Hi im new here and really could use some help. Im looking for a mtb that will give me good road performance too. Im working on the basis ill need two set of wheels and tyres can any one give me some ideas was think a hard tail and like of Cube's stuff or am i best just getting a road bike

i enjoy mtbing but if i want to ride locally its mainly road work and can only fford one bike so need somthing that can do a bit of both. also have never owed a road bike before0

You either want a lightweight hardtail or a cyclocross bike.
The hardtail will be far more capable off road, but will be slower and feel a little lifeless on the tarmac.
The cross bike will be faster on road, less effort and far more responsive, but won't be suitable for any serious off road action.

Easier to swap tyres than wheels. You might have to adjust calipers and index gears changing wheels.I don't do smileys.

Also probably cheaper to buy a cheap second hand road hack than a separate set of wheels.I don't do smileys.
