My bike came with Shimano 105 gears (the cables are external so I believe it will be the older version) however it comes with an FSA Omega crankset. (compact)

I'd like to replace it with a 105 crankset, will it matter if its the 5603 or the 5700 version? I know I will also have to replace the BB.

any advice would be gratefully received.

David.

Well it looks like the 5603 is a triple and the 5700 is a standard double.
Your FSA chainset is a compact so you need to decide which option you really want ?
If you go for the 5700 it will work fine with a little adjustment to the front mech.
If you go for the 5603 you might need a new rear mech with a long cage. Also you need to make sure the left shifter is compatible with a triple chainset.
maybe the 5750 is what you need as it is also a compact so would be a direct replacement.

  • I finally worked out the what the numbers mean more, I definitely have a compact FSA, so if I replace directly with a 105 5750 I'm hoping I am right in thinking then that it's just a straight swap? (Already have BB as it was given to me as a gift)

    Thanks for your reply.
