hi,

I am looking for a repair stand, any recommendations?

I want something to get the bike off the ground, something doesn't look right with the ones that clamp round the frame or seat post.

I like the idea of the tacx one where you take out the front wheel. But open to alternatives.

Cheers

I think you may be disappointed with the Tacx one. There is a reason almost every shop in the world uses the somewhat "standard" Park Tool stand, which clamps around the top tube or seat post. You don't need to shell out big money for a Park stand. There are plenty of "Park type" stands out there that will work very well in your home shop. Go with one and you won't be disappointed. Plus you won't have to take the front wheel off to work on the bike.

I was considering the tacx one at about €129, so around that area is my budget!

All the 'tripod' type ones are a very similar design, with only the clamp that is different and the lightness of the stand, and they're fine for most fettling, but what you can't do is work on the BB area easily, but you can with the Tacx one, or at least the T3050 Team Spider stand.

My LBS uses one for their builds and you can see the advantage.

I'd avoid the seatpost type clamp because it doesn't offer any support for BB jobs etc - fine for light maintenance but useless if having to deal with a stuck BB cup. FWIW The Tacx Spider Team design is the type most commonly used by pro team bike mechanics
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
