Cube GTC Agree Race 2010 Owners - Help needed

I've owned the above bike for about 8 months and until now been very happy.
I recently noticed a creaking noise from my headset. Upon inspection I noticed a gap between the bottom of the headset and where the crown bearing sits. It's about 5-6mm.
There was a lot of road "debris" jammed in the space obviously thrown up by the tyre.
It does not look right to me. Please look at yours and let me know what you think?
To me it looks like the crown race is the wrong one!
I've been trying to insert pics but to no avail. Help there would be appreciated too!
