Morning all

Looking to order some 661 Kyle Strait pads and trying to measure up

Looking at the design of the pad and the way it sits on the knee, "Top Opening" seems to me to be around an inch or so above the knee cap, which on my leg is 18"

On the 661 website, it says to measure the leg pretty much around the kneecap area, which is only 15" on my legs, the diff being between Medium and XL pads...

I dont think of my legs as being a medium size, but want to make sure i order the right size (ordering off eBay, so cant try on)

Any advice from 661 users ?

Cheers

My legs are 18" at the top, 14.5" at the bottom (and 15" in the middle). Medium KSs fit me well. I can do them up tight, but could still go a little tighter (sacrificing blood-flow though). From past experiences I've found 661's own sizing charts to be waaaaay off.

edit: rereading your post, I'd say the top strap goes around roughly 4" above the centre of my kneecap. Bottom is 4" below centre of kneecap.

I found 661 to be small fitting, I have order large in everthing and all fit ok.

Take a look at fox launch pro knees, I've just got these and they are a really good fit (large) legs are 19 top and 15 bottom.

  • Agreed.
661 are always on the tight side. If you are between two sizes, go for the bigger of the two.

  • The measurements on 661's sizing chart relate to the circumference of the neoprene sleeve measured at the two elasticated straps. The distance between the straps is 28cm - measured on the skin around the front of your knee, which for me puts the lower strap just above the widest part of the calf muscle.

I guess ideally your leg should be a few cm larger than the size indicated on the chart so that the neoprene sleeve is slightly stretched when worn - maybe up to 7cm larger than the indicated size would be ok.

I dont agree with the other advice to go for a larger size. You don't want your leg to be any smaller than the indicated size because that would put wrinkles in the neoprene sleeve when the elasticated strap is tightened.

The sizing chart says the top opening on XL is 46cm, and my legs measure 46cm. There is no stretch in the neoprene sleeve when I am wearing them, and I have the elasticated strap in the normally tightened position (ie with the two opposing velcro patches aligned). Just looking at the top opening, I would probably be better off with a smaller size.

The bottom opening is 38cm on the sizing chart, and my legs measure 44cm. The neoprene is stretched nearly to its limit and I have the elasticated strap as loose as it will go, but this is still a comfortable fit.

    I hope this helps,
