Hi all
After losing out to a second hand StumpJumper Elite last night (missed the buy by about 10 minutes), I'm falling back to my previous ideas on purchasing a new Canyon bike from over the border in Germany.
I've been looking at both the XC and AM but can not decide between the two of them, my riding tends to be xc trails, pump track, commuting to work (mostly off road for around 20km each way) and I am looking to start heading out on some group rides in the alps (i live in Switzerland) where the guys mostly end up climbing by cable car and doing long decents.
Is there really a big difference between an XC and AM bike for decending (im not talking flat out DH here) but there may be the odd jump or two.
I know Canyon seem to be love hate with some on here but they seem pretty hard to beat on price / value, are there really any other alternatives for a comparible cost?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like AM to me. I ride Nerve XC (and am truly happy about it), but the mountains up here (in Finland) are not comparable to Swiss ones.
You may also want to check another German value deal:

zenistar - had the same dillemma for the past couple of months - i ride an anthem and wondered if the step to the am's 150mm travel would make it weird to ride. I've gone with the am now - based on a test ride on an orange 5 150mm bike. I absolutely loved it!
can't tell you what the am rides like yet unfortunately - its due in a couple of weeks!Canyon AM 6.0
At some point i am going to manage to jump one of these things.....0 -
Thanks for the link TimoH, I will check that ut as well.
Spudly - this would be my first suspension bike and I am really not sure if I am going to see a huge difference between a 140 and 150mm bike.2012 Brompton S6L

I have a Nerve XC 7.0 and now a buddy has got himself an AM 6.0.
Riding them back to back and over most stuff there isnt much difference apart from weight and the riding position is slighter further back. Climbing is a bit harder but he just drops the the fork and gets his head down. On a 15 minute singletrackclimb last weekend I pulled about a minute on the climb. Going down the other side I had to take a few risks to keep him in sight he just let it roll. He has put a 2.35 Kenda small block 8 tyre on the back he is keeping the 2.4 Nobby Nic for winter.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0
