There's also the TLI North Midlands Road Race League up around Worksop/Rotherham. Too late for this year as the 3rd and final series is almost finished, but something to consider for next year. You just need a TLI licence which is only £16 for a year. Costs about £30 per series of 6 races to enter (of which you race 4 and marshal 2) so cheaper than British Cycling affiliated races. Its a good way into racing and good training, but if you're serious about racing then its ultimately the BC races that count.
    More problems but still living....

There's also an evening track race league on Monday nights at Forest Town track at Mansfield until 12th September. Can probably hire a track bike there. A good way to get into racing for the uninitiated.

You really need to be in a club before you can start doing much racing. Racing in the UK is almost wholly run by unpaid volunteers who usually put in all the hard work involved in organising events on behalf of their club. By joining a club you make a small contribution to the club-cycling community on which all competitive road racing and time trialling relies.

I assume you're not yet in one otherwise you'd be able to ask your clubmates all about local racing. So it's probably best to search the BC website for a local club to join as a starting point.
