Formula One - death of free to air coverage from the BBC?

A real shame. Refuse to pay for Sky for the same reason we cancelled our subscription to the Times. I don't want to be arrested for giving money to criminals.
I'm quite a big fan of F1 and the BBC coverage is in my opinion excellent. That said, its governance practices would suggest F1 and Sky will make ideal bedfellows.
This thread clearly shows what a tough job the BBC have to do to try and address such widely disparate audience views and interests. Personally I'd tax all football coverage to just about double its current cost to all end users, then put the money into coverage of sports that might go some way towards countering the vile influence its repellent stars engender in our youth.0 -
Ah, real shame.
I really enjoy F1 and I have been particularly enjoying the coverage which is excellent.
Imagine that kinda coverage for cycling! 'Cor. And not just the live stuff. The fact it's on I player an hour or two later so I can watch it in the evening while the girlfriend watches some murder mystery.
Can't bring myself to fork out that vast amount of cash for Sky. Shame.0 -

If everyone had resisted when all the other events moved to Sky they would have less money and wouldn't be able to then use that revenue to bring in even more events.
The more people give to Sky the more they will grab off free to air channels.
Don't give in and pay for Sky or it will never go back to free-to-air!0 -

Ah, I meant sky sports. I already subscribe to sky, which without sky sports is good value.0 -

The BBC is not free.
The BBC were paying £40million a year for F1 rights, which is less than what the team finishing bottom of the premier league receives in TV money. That's how far the BBC is away from competing in the market.0
