Can anyone recommend an MTB helmet around the £50-£60 mark?

yep one that fits YOUR head and is comfortable.

Go try some on and then ask which is the best/best value etc as what is right for one person can be very wrong for another.

+ 1 for trying on first. I use a specialised align which looks great, fits perfectly and has a handy dial for on the fly adjustments (no messing around with straps). Came in at £30.00 from Evans but I did try on first.

Also boardman do a decent helmet with carbon shell and carry case for around £50.

Can't stress enough how important it is to try first tho, my head is a odd shape and it took a while to find a good fitting helmet.

    Hope you find one soon.

Thanks.... would never buy without trying but just looking for thoughts on what's good and what's not out there.

again it depends on you and your head.

for me a TLD is a pile of crap as they just do not fit my head. but they are meant to be the best full face lid out there.

So untill you have got a short list it is rather hard to make any comment on any of the 100's of lids that there are out there.

other than to say if it cost £10 it might not be that good but it will still have passed the minimum safety requirements.

Like MTBs, at any given price point helmets are pretty much the same. They all pass the same (minimal) safety tests so it all depends on:

    a) does it fit
    b) does it make you look cool

FWIW Giro tend to be pretty good quality but basically you get what you pay for.

Get one as round as you can. Some have stupid protrusions at the back which increase the chance of rotational injuries (or lack of rotation compared to your body) in the event of a crash.

It is a problem when your body will be rolling but the your head isn't rolling as fast or smoothly due to the lumpy helmet. Your neck will bear the brunt of the damage.

All helmets pass the rather weak and low kitemark standards. If you're doing anything crazy then a full face helmet is much safer.

Urge Endur-O-Matic, comes in a £63.99 from here and it's very good. The fit is customizable, the ventilation is good, there's lots of protection for your head, it's very light and IMO looks great.

I struggled to find a comfortable helmet at the £50 mark, around the £70 mark there were a few which fitted well, but the Fox Flux suited me best I'm sure they're cheaper online, but again trying is essential to find the one that works for you.
