I want to replace my current chain with a SRAM 8 speed chain with a power link fitted so that it is easier to remove to clean the chain and cassette, totally confused with which one to buy.

My current chain is a KMC Z72 which came fitted on the bike.

Thanks
Sarah

How old is the current chain? If it is partially worn you might be looking at getting a new cassette too as they wear and mesh together.

You could otherwise save yourself a bit of money and fit an 8spd powerlink to your current chain in replacement of a standard link.

Get a new KMC, come with powerlinks as well and are better, IMHO.

  • Hi,

The bike is nearly new, only 8 weeks old but looking online at the chain it is a very cheap one and would prefer to fit a better one with a power link.

    Thanks

Just use the chain and think about replacing it when it is worn. It may not even get that dirty, and is easy enough to clean on the bike anyway.

A new one will not perform any better.

You can just buy a powerlink (Sram or KMC will fit) on Ebay.
Cheap chains are fine, often works out cheaper to replace a cheap chain regularly, and saves the rest of the drivetrain.

  • Thanks cooldad, will just put in a power link and use the chain which came with the bike.

Just make sure you get an 8 speed one.
