Posting for a friend of mine who not too forum savvy :roll: he owns an older treak 5200, the bike which has had a fair bit of use and has some paint chips and lifting laquer, he cant afford a new bike and is looking at getting the frame repainted.......I have used Argos in Bristol before on Steel frames and have called them and asked if they would do a carbon frame......they said they would but not at the moment due to high work load on steel bikes......does anyone have any recommendations for companies willing to take the job on......or does anyone have any other options

All help and advise would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

    Atlantic Boulevard in Bury - do a collection service too. One of the times I was in there, Neil was refinishing a batch of carbon Treks. I've had 2 frames done by AB including one that is polished ti and lacquered carbon - top quality work.

  • Just spoken to Neill, 320 quid for frame and fork....is that a bit steep ??

    Doesn't sound overly steep to me. I would assume for that you will get;

    Frame and forks dismantled.
    Prep by way of rubbing down (very time consuming if you want a good job)
    Undercoat, at least one if not two coats, rubbed down between.
    Masking, possibly extensively if you are having any kind of 'design' like original bikes from the factory have.
    Base coat(s), again one, maybe two coats with rubbing down between, maybe more masking between different colours.
    Transfer application (if any)
    Lacquer coats, again with rubbing in between.
    Final finishing to get that shine!

    Add to that lot the cost of materials; paint(s), lacquers, masking, cutting/polishing compound, consumables and then labour charge for the expertise that the individual has......and all of a sudden it looks pretty reasonable to me, even more so if they collect and deliver it!

    £300 is what I've paid for a top-quality paintjob with transfers and clearcoat.
