Sram red cranks on a new frame.

Another creaking crank problem. I know that these cranks need torqued up to 50 odd Nm. Now when torqued up I have lateral play, most noteably when the driveside crank arm is at the 6 o'clock position. The cranks have been on and off so many times and it's still the same. The frameset is new so I was wondering if the bb faces need facing. The bb is a gpx unit. Any ideas?

if they have not been faced then yes.

otherwise add grease to the bearings.
Check the assembly for play by rocking the crank arms back and forth away from frame. If the crank moves, tighten crank arm bolt until no play is detected. If maximum torque of
54 N·m (478 in-lb) has been achieved, remove the crank arm from the spindle, apply additional grease and repeat installation procedures until play is eliminated.

but the play you mention sounds more like a worn bearing as it only happens at one point.

Hi, loads of grease applied. It's a new set of cranks and a new bb. The play seems substantially greater at the 6 o'clock position, but is present(minimal) the rest of the way round.
