Nope. Happened a few Mondays ago though. Torrential downpour. Was great fun until I got to work and realised I had no spare undies with my change of clothes.

I quite enjoy riding in the rain aslong as its not combined with strong winds

    Dry this morning.

Did 40 dry miles in Windsor Great Park on Sunday morning; just parked up under a tree for tea and a bacon buttie from the snack van when the heavens opened, and Mrs A turned up with the car and an offer of a lift home.

Even managed a BBQ yesterday afternoon and the evening was spend quaffing wine in the back garden.

At some point I full expect to ride into a 10' deep ditch full of water just to keep the universe in balance.

  • Nah, bottled it and drove.

I don't mind if it starts chucking down on my way but I don't like setting off in it.

    Bottled it as well!

Its been dry here so far, but when I looked out and saw the wind blowing I decided to drive!

The weather is so all over the place. Friday I had a great ride around Windsor, Bracknell and Maidenhead and have some impressive tan lines to prove it, but today!!!!

Damp and a bit rainy in Leeds. Not bad enough to stop me doing an extended commute in. I put the crud racers back on over the weekend and wore overshoes so the wet didn't really affect me. Didn't even notice when it started raining properly!

I was sorely tempted to take the motorbike this morning. Forced myself to cycle and am glad I did. Not too wet after all.
Finding the motivation to cycle on a damp and windy Monday morning is very difficult when I have a fully operational motorbike in the garage. 1200cc and 150bhp is just what you need in bad weather around London traffic.

It's great isn't it. I tend to take the direct route to work when wearing waterproofs, but I can sit there grinning, water pouring off, whilst I get all sorts of odd looks from motorists.

My pet hate is wet shoes, as they stink if you don't dry them. I have some BBB hardwear overshoes that are great. If it's heavy rain, I'll chuck on some waterproof overtrousers - just stops the rain coming in the top of the overshoes.

Just make it habbit to cycle. I have a nice fully climate controlled car with a nice hi-fi system - but I leave it at home, even in a foot of snow ! :D

My turn tonight looking at the forecast, thankfully the wind is tame today so should make it home in a good time.

+1 In fact I've only done two journeys in the car in 12 months. Both to take stuff I couldn't take easily on the bike.

Soaked through this morning. Now blowin a hoolie.
I expect to get equally soaked on the way back.

I don't really mind though. Worst bit is pulling on the wet clothes at the end of the day. Not too bad once I get going.

Damp as opposed to soaking, although not looking great for trip home at the moment.

I'm still feeling quite pleased with myself though, because it was definitely raining when I set off and under those circumstances I usually bottle it and take the car.

I reckon there's a bit of a psychological tipping point. When it's just starting to rain, I tend to think 'oh no, it's raining, I'm getting wet and uncomfortable, should I stop and put on a jacket/sprint for home/find some shelter and sit it out, this is a bit unpleasant'. But then I reach a point where I think 'sod it, I couldn't get any wetter if I jumped in a lake, hot shower when I get there, might as well have a bit of fun'. At that point I start looking for puddles to blast through and it's actually pretty enjoyable

I have to confess: I opened the garage door this morning wearing my short-sleeved top and hi-viz vest to feel the gentle rain and see the howling wind.

Thought better of it, shut and locked the garage door, walked back to the bedroom to get changed into my work clothes and instead put on the showerproof top, got the bike out the garage and cycled in.

    I'm fickle me.

I'm still not sure it was such a good idea though.....

Why bother? I just use a long sleeve top and leg warmers when it is rainy (assuming it is a bit cooler for the rain). Boil in the bags rarely help!

Driving to work is horrible, a chore not a joy. I only drive a car if I have to carry something large. Riding a motorbike is fun and doesn't involve sitting in traffic. A choice between a car and a bicycle would always result in bicycle being chosen. It's a much harder choice when both involve two wheels.
