Hi,
I'm on the last leg of a bike rebuild (i'll add pics when complete) the problem is I've taken a working rear mech of my old frame put it on the new bike, put on new cables, the front mech works fine, when i try to change the rear nothing moves. I've probably made a fundamental error but i dont know what. :?
Any help / advice please.
Cheers

Go back to the beginning Squib..
Check your cable routing, especially under the BB, make sure all the cable outers, especially from the RD to the chainstays are seated properly, make sure you had the shifters set in the right gear when you cabled up to the RD...after that its cable tension i guess.0 -
is the cable routing correct?- the cable path to the clamp and the side of the screw it enters on, are important, get it wrong and all kinds of weird effects ensue
did you move the shifter to smallest sprocket before setting the cable tension and clamping the cable?
is the cable tension correct? - presumably it is sitting on the smallest sprocket, on the down tube if you manually push the cable to the side it should easily create enough tension to move the rear mech inwards to the larger sprockets
which rear mech? if it's shimano you'll find set-up info here...

otherwise look on the manufacturer's website, or for generic info see park tool's guides...

Thanks for the advice I'll have a go following all the tips much appreciated
