Anyone got any views on these, in particular their new 'compression fit'?

The previous version got good reviews (thanks NapD) but I'm not too sure about the idea of compression fit...I'm not sure I have a compression fit body!!! Especially with a £16 (20%) price hike.

You mean they've copied Assos marketing by saying they offer compression qualities on the muscle zone?

The new pro teams are modelled on the feedback recieved from the 23c orbea riders.

The panelling has changed slightly, from feedback we've taken from customers. The new pro team bibs, will essentially be black versions of the Shutt VR team shorts.
A new TMF multi density chamois inside, another couple of models up from what was in the old ones, and again we've done our best to improve quality, having sourced a nicer lycra. In my opinion at least. Also the shoulder straps are much friendlier to hot weather aswell.

All cycling shorts should offer some sort of compression to keep the chamois in place, and give some support to muscles and "other areas"

Obviously we follow the school of Jens and just ride on how we feel, and comparing a new pair to and old pair there is more compression without feeling constricted or uncomfortable.

The only problem I see here is that you often get Assos Uno's at a similar price from the likes of Ribble etc, so they are entering whole different league of competition.

I like my mk 1 Shutt Pro bibs, but the quality is nothing like the Uno's for construction, pad and general fit. It sounds from the previous post that the small niggles I have with the Shutt's have been addressed - chiefly the badly fitting bibstraps. I got my mk 1's for less than £70 in the sales, and at that price they are great value for money. But, the lettering on my Shutts started to peel off after the very first wash, so unless they have addressed the quality issues, the price will higher cost them business I reckon.

As MD at Shutt I'd like to expand on Matt's comments I don't want to take over a thread…

The pro's have been available since 2009 and when we talked about compression fit then no one batted an eyelid. Also we tried to keep the price competitive and despite increase costs for fabric & pads increasing, VAT rising to 20% we haven't touched the price in 3 years so a 12% increase to £89 is something we are comfortable with. [The team shorts are £95.]

As Matt says the extra investment in the shorts is not just for a couple of cosmetic tweaks. We have completely redesigned them based on customer, team and press test feedback. The prototypes were tested by Twenty3c-Orbea last season and now they race in production versions. These became the basis for the new pros and our team bibs to which we've made a number of improvements, chiefly a range topping TMF pad, PowerLycra from Miti, new braces and printed logos.

As soon as we have them with us we will be sending them for review.. Hopefully NapD will be back on his bike soon as he was a big fan of the MkI's and we'd appreciate his comments.

Personally I don't see it as touting at all, more giving you direct feedback on issues raise in this thread. Good on him for that and I'll certainly be considering Shutt VR when buying my next pair of bibs but if I'm honest I don't expect to be buying any soon - my Castelli stuff is doing a great job.

    Peter,
they look good. Will they be a little longer in the leg? I am told the Sean Yates look is not too flattering on me :)

And will the stitching be stronger? mine came away on the right leg. I still wear them but they now looka little scruffy.

Hi Robert - Length is as the Team ones, I think they are about a cm longer than the old pros. Shorter is more fashionable and on trend for 2012 apparently.

Stitching is all flatlocked through out for greater strength. We can repair yours if you can spare them for a week?

  • Peter,

Thank you for your feedback. Most useful.

Birthday next week, so looks like I will have to get myself a present :)

Oh, thanks for getting the price updated on the website.

  • Pete,

    Sorry to resurrect this thread.

Can you answer a quick question or 2? Size-wise, your website suggests large for me at 6' - is that fair? Waist is 36" and I could certainly do with losing a few kilos.

Also, how quickly can you supply? I delayed previously (was undecided because of price) but I'm due to go on a 2 week biking holiday at the end of next week and my current main shorts are getting a bit tired.

    Thanks.

  • That'll be my birthday money spent already then! Love my Mk1s. Got me through a London Paris and Hadrians Wall ride without a smudge of discomfort.

Pete, you offer shorter-than-average shorts for those inclined for the Sean Yates look. How about offering some that are longer-than-average for those preferring that look, or who like me happen to be very lanky gits and who need a longer fitting? I'm sure some other folks would be interested in longer legs too, as per the OP's question, and others asking the same thing previously.

Alternatively, can you run off longer pairs as a one-off?

    cheers.
  • I've got some mkI pro's and think they're great. Wouldn't fancy a shorter leg to be honest. Tehy wer emy best shorts, but are now reduced to second best I'm afraid since I got some Assos Uno for my birthday.

I also have some ShuttVR classic bibs which are a terrible fit. Seem to be made for fat riders. Prefer my DHB bibs from the same price range.
  • Massive thumbs up for ShuttVR. Would just like to say thanks to Jessica on your team for switching my arm warmers for the bib shorts I wanted and doing it within 2 days, great job. :)

Credit to the guy for being prepared to come on here and own up to who he is. Not touting but being very generous in giving his tome for a direct answer. There are many threads on here about the crappy service and lack of responses people get from their LBS or online retailer and getting no response when asking questions etc. This level of service (or call it what you will) makes me think I will consider Shutt next time I need bike gear.

    Thanks MIggers.

My thoughts exactly. Top stuff, not many MDs who would bother to post such helpful/honest replies and it led me to look through the Shutt website too (a few products bookmarked but just need to save up now  )

Another big thanks to Jessica. She helped me get some bib shorts that had been out of stock delivered quickly so I could have them before I set off for France. Very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

Done it. Order's in eventually after some faffing about trying to order online, had to 'phone and place order.

    Very helpful young lady.

Hopefully will arrive before I leave next week.

  • Ordered Thursday late afternoon. Delivered today.

    Superb service, thanks ShuttVR.

I will report back with my verdict after 1/10, having ridden them thoroughly for best bit of 2 weeks.

I just wanted to give my opinion on the Shutt bibs.

I bought the Mk1 Pro bibs around the turn of the year, and they were my first pair of bib-shorts. The difference between them and my previous shorts (Altura Pro gel) was huge - the Shutt bibs have a really good pad that fits very well, and the shoulder straps did a good job holding the pads in place. Downsides: the seams on the shorts can cut in to your legs a bit, nothing uncomfortable, but looks a bit odd. The bibs also do tend to get a bit twisted and wrapped up around themselves. Overall I was very pleased.

I got my hands on one of the Daily Deal vouchers for Shutt, and bought a pair of the new Mk2 bibs. I've only ridden them on the turbo so far, but they've been great - much better than the old ones. The quality of the lycra is much better, and the seam on the legs doesn't dig in at all. The straps on the shoulders fit much better too. For me though the big difference is in the pad - the new one is much firmer, which is actually much more comfortable. The pad also has a cut out down the centre, which really takes the pressure off the perineum area.

I thought the Mk1 shorts were very good, but the new ones are much, much better. I've never used any of the really top-end shorts (Assos etc.) but I'd definitely buy the Mk2 Pro bibs again.
