i already race XC mountain bike however im spending more and more time out on the road with my local club, am currently riding the 50 mile club runs on my XC bike with knobbly tires as i dont want to be forever changing stuff. so ive decided to look for a road bike that is worthy of racing and thus having a racey geometry to it with racing type gearing too. idealy im gonna be buying second hand and am looking at the sort of £400ish SH so advice on upto £1000 new bikes that are resonably easy to get hold of secound hand would be awsome!
many thanks!

You'll find no end of Specialized Allez going second hand on ebay and in various listings. That might be a place to start, a good all round bike and loads of options on gearing to get one that suits you.0

I would hardly class an Allez as having racy geometry. Would have though a second hand Cannondale Caad or a Cervelo S1/Soloist would be better for a purer racer. Mind you those bikes are fab and you might find it hard to find anyone daft enough to sell one.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

brilliant guys thanks! i have been looking at the Allez's prior to posting and they do seem to be pretty good bikes for the money. alot of people on the forum talk about the Caads but since my LBS dont have anyway to check for size and such i havnt really given it much thought but might do now. cheers guys0

The Allez is a good bike but I think you get a better designed and built frame with a CAAD.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.
