Has there been anything to mark his passing at this years Tour or have I missed it?

The man is the youngest post war winner, France's last GT winner and was part of the greatest Grand Boucle ever.

I haven't seen anything official but there was a huge Fignon poster/banner thing on the road side, hanging off a load of hay bales on stage 6.

Its kinda sad that he seems to have been totally forgotten.

What would France give for someone of his class now?

The route presentation in the Autumn opened with a video montage of his career, which was also the opening of the TV coverage (i.e. before stage 1) on French TV.

Voeckler has his class, unfortunately he just doesn't have his talent.

The last stage starts from somewhere that's linked to him.

Maybe his hometown or what have you, and they're going to do a little something then as far as I know,

agree, it's sad they don't put on a memorial or competition in his name. Maybe rudehome is trying to be politically correct so can't show too much respect to riders who admitted to using some susbtances
  • Perhaps eventually they'll put up a memoriam. It looks like a tribute was made at last year's Vuelta in the Pyrenees.

I recall reading that they ( his wife, Tour officials, previous riders etc) are naming a street after him. It's near the finish line on the day the tour goes to Montpellier (Sun July 17th).

I love this photo and it's juxtaposition -

  • He lived the last few years of his life in the Pyrenees. His passing was well marked here.

One of the roads up the Col du Tourmalet has been named in his honour.
