My gear shifter has just broke and ive had a tripple on and wanted to change to a double for a while now and this is the biggest excuse to.

Ive noticed the doubles all day 10 speed. Does that mean they have to be 10 at back cassette? Im just bit confused about it all.

you can use a 10-speed crankset in an otherwise 9-speed system

you *may* get a bit of chain rub when on the small ring, but fitting a 10-speed chain will eliminate that (the 10-speed chain will be fine with 9-speed cassette/rear mech)

a triple shifter will work ok with a double crankset, but if you are replacing this anyway you might as well fit a double one

a triple front mech will also be ok, but i prefer to fit a double one, looks neater and it is usually a cheap component

    I'm doing that with a Dura-Ace 7800 triple 10 speed crankset on a 9 speed 105 system and it's fine. I'm using a 9 speed chain.

Well thats good news to say the least.

    So Shimano 105 Double 5600, 53 39
    Shimano 105 5600 BB Cups
    And replacement shifter.

    All this should work together...
