Release all the clicks at the shifter and release the cable clamp at the mech. Then set it up from scratch as per Shimano's instructions.

would that be to the top or bottom of the cassette. getting the instructions now. going to need to redo the front mech as I am changing from a compact to a standard. didnt think i would need a special tool to get that bleeding plastic screw out  well its ordered now... so rebuilding has stalled.

hold my hands up I am an idiot  with the chain off i spun the cranks and heard a clicking was looking to find out where it was coming from as they spin really well (even tho I am replacing them) I had to know where it was coming from!

well i kinda forgot about the garmin cadence sensor  20minutes of fiddling and searching for it to be something like that

When you run out of down-clicks you should be on the smallest sprocket at the back with almost no tension in the cable

Proper tool for the plastic crank cap is vital: nothing else will fit properly, and it ensures you can't really overtighten it (and hence overload the bearings) when you install the LH crank.

Good point about the garmin sensor. I'll look out for that if ever I can afford one!
