Apologies if this seems stupid, but i noticed after a recent safety check of my steerer that after removing the stem and bung, using a mini torch I could see lots of what looks like carbon shavings down the steerer. Its quite a way down around the middle of the headtube sort of area, it seems to be attached to the steerer like its not been filled off or milled out.

I dont have a clue how they are made so only surmising here but is this normal ?. They defo came like this as it cant be anything ive done or the LBS as its just to far down for you to interfere with.

thanks

You're probably seeing the remnants of the bladder which is used down the inside of the forks during moulding to compress the fibre and resin matrix - perfectly normal.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
