Been thinking of getting a specialized allez sport as a beginner bike but thinking of getting something that's slightly better.

My budget is £500 and am prepared to buy 2nd hand that's maybe 2-3 years old.

Any recommendations ?

Ideally under 9.5kg. in a nice colour.

£500 as a secondhand budget is a fair start and should enable you to pick up a decent bike (and maybe if you get lucky/and are patient you may be on the verge of carbon road bike with 105 spec if 2-3 years old. A Specialized Allez Elite with carbon forms & stays should come well within budget. Beating your bike weight should not be a major problem.

I think secondhand at £500 is the way forward - £500 new doesn't net you much whereas £500 seocndhand may see you get a £1K+ bike.

    Good luck

at £500 if it were my dosh id go for the 2009 allez elite. great bike and good upgrade potential too

edit. will also hold its value well if you decide on a different upgrade path like shelling out crap loads on a super light carbon bike.

trust me it will happen :)

    How about the Cannondale CAAD8?!

Nothing wrong with the Allez though

CAAD8 quite a light bike but I kinda like the top tube to be slightly sloping like on specialized and giant.

Just wanted something professional looking and slick.
