First off, hi to everyone - I'm a relative newby on here, enjoy my road riding (the dark side) just as much as my off road but I've come up against a problem with the purchase of a new car.

I've just bought a 2006 honda civic (the new shape) and fancy a bike rack to suit both the car and also the awkward frame style of my beloved Commencal Meta 5.
I'm not a fan of the saris bones after reading a few reviews that say it's not the best for use with a meta but I'm open to all other suggestions.

Has anyone got any experience with these, either positive or negative please - any info shared would be very gratefully recieved indeed.

Cheers guys,
Phil

(ps. I'm really only looking for tailgate mounted ones rather than roof or tow bar mounted; apologies for being such a fussy sod!)

    try here

Personally would never use on one mine.the lack of a lip and plastic / glass rear end is just not suitable.

thanks for that mate - very much obliged!

After reading that thread though it's looking like a non-starter for my bike rack idea's, I don't want a roof mounted one at all and I'm reluctant to fork out for a towbar just for the odd time I'm taking the bike somewhere.....looks like my answer could be just sticking the bike inside with plenty of plastic sheeting down to protect the cars interior, not ideal but anything else is sounding either an expensive solution or potentially harmful to my nice new motor.

Thanks very much for your help there though :)

Yes seats down front wheel off fits in no problmes. I have managed to get 3 people plus bikes and weekend kit in mine.

Can also consider just lifting up the back seet bases and puting the bike in across the passenge space althought all my bikes are to big to fit this way.

I use a ThuleRide on. If you are not too unhappy about fitting a towbar to the Civic (you can get them that come from under the bumper and are detachable so you cant see them at all when they are not fitted.

Its very easy to load a bike onto the rack and its supported by its wheels, womens bike, folders, anything with 2 wheels and a tube somewhere between the 2 fit on this rack. You can still access the boot too.

I bought one cheap recently from Tesco direct and am very happy with it.
