I'm after a new chainset. It needs to be black, reliable and semi lightweight (ideally sub 800g). Price bracket is £300.
I was wondering about a campag centaur power torque carbon. It fits the bill but does anyone know about reliabilty?
Any views, ideas or inspiration appreciated,
Thanks

Yes Ive just purchased in past 6 weeks and fitted a new 2011 centaur carbon chainset. All black for 2011 including the chainrings. The carbon version is actually lighter than more expensive 11 speed chainsets in the campag range, ie Athena to Record ,
It looks great on the bike and shifts really well. No problems at all , though being campag I dont expect many and am hoping for long troublefree use
Ive used in long runs and 3 club races. I previously had an alloy FSA chainset which was ok but this definetly shifts better and being really fickle it looks great.0 -
If you're ok with standard rather than compact gearing, Ribble have 2010 Campag Chorus cranks for under £130.
Bargaintastic for a sub-700g crank (the 739g quoted on Ribble includes the BB cups for some reason)Alex0 -
The new 2012 Centaur Red series should be out in August

Wow, that's worth waiting forThe Centaur black/red chainset retains all the technical and performance characteristics of the 2011 version and has been created based on a special treatment for the finish of certain parts that make the components sportier and more aggressive.
So it's the same as standard but they've anodised some bits..........Faster than a tent.......0 -

Just a question, why are centaur chainsets 300 quid ish nowadays when they only used to be half that price a few years ago?
Are they half the weight or twice as good or is it like tyre prices from Michelin... we're just being ripped off?Oh and please remember to click on my blog:
