Double & Bash with Chain Device - Chain Length?

Hi all,
I’m running a Shimano SLX Chainset Double M665 (36/22) and Gamut P30 Dual Chain Guide on my Cotic Bfe.
Correct me if wrong, but normally you would measure your chain, big ring to large sprocket and add two links (1 + a SRAM Powerlink Connector). I did this, then fitted the chain device.
I have to say the rear derailleur seems to be under a lot of tension – almost horizontal in the more extreme gears (big ring to second largest sprocket).
It’s the first time I’ve run a chain guide.
Out back is a SLX Shadow Rear Derailleur M662 (GS Medium Cage).
Should I have left in more links to compensate for the roller take up on the chain device, or is this normal?
Cheers 8)

you should do it with the device fitted as it takes up chain length."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Had that feeling (once I had fitted it).
I've got a spare few links, maybe time for a double SRAM powerlink bodge.
