I'm in the market for some new wheels, and like the look of these.. are they complete with freehub etc, ie - bolt on a cassette and fit to bike?
Are they deffinately sealed bearings, rather than cup and cone?0 -
I'd approach the superstar ones with caution- they know how to make good wheels, I've seen the results when their builder has a good day but they also know how to make crap ones. You're basically trading excellent value for an increased risk of hassle. IMO, of courseUncompromising extremist0

Thanks for advice guys, the superstars appear to be a popular choice on here, but I think Im gonna go with the FSA XC-150s, bound to find a Qr adapter to fit :?http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=12851595

The fsas are very heavy-id definately get the fulcrums over them. Hub adaptors are hub specific and some hubs cannot be converted at all. I dont think the FSA ones can be converted.
IMO at this price range the superstar ones are the best-with the double butted sapim race spokes(+£25) they are considerably lighter than the other ones listed here, and the hubs are convertible between various axle standards. All the people I have spoken to that have them have had only good things to say about them, and they come in loads of colours. If the wheelbuilder does have an off day, you can send them back and they will fix them for free. If you knock them out of true, again they will true them for free.0 -
With the stories i've been told about Superstar wheel builds (ie massive hit an miss depending on if the builder has a day when they can be arsed or not). I'd stay well away from them.
In fact with the customer service hassle last time over some brake hose.
I'll only ever be buying brake pads and grips from that place.0 -
Ah,now I'm stumped, just looked at the fulcrums again they look an obvious choice, but are they cartridge or cup n cone bearings?http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=12851595

That is not the real world experience of users tbh, not from the cases I've heard of anyway. "You should have bought the downhill rims if you want to ride like this"- "like this" meaning glentress red route on an XC hardtail. Just put the blame straight onto the customer. And not unique for SS, ask on Singletrack about the cranks sometime. Or hey, ask me about my seatpost
They do sell some good stuff but they're a shonky company and no mistake. I still use them, but with caution, I think the prices are generally good enough to get over the downsides. Wouldn't buy wheels from them! Wheels, you have to be able to trust, it's no use having a good guarantee if they go wrong on day one of a week away or on run one of a £40 uplift day.Uncompromising extremist0 -
