Amusingly, none of these riders were born in the Republic of Ireland

That would almost be like someone born in Belgium to an Australian father winning the British RR championships

You are right about some other Nat RRs which have a similar situation, although I cant think of one where it is literally an entire team against everyone, more a bunch of PT against everyone.

Re Martin. Just really like him as a rider by miles and would have been happier if he won.

No you are right I like martin too as a rider.

Also it's not a comment on you seen it posted in loads of places about sky at nationals but probably GB is rare enough that it doesn't really have a wide spread of home grown talent at pro tour levels. Maybe that will change in the future, I guess for people like Cav they must look at it and think it's gonna be a tough day.

Like I said I believe Swiss champs were pretty similar but riders like Cancellara, Gilbert etc who can cope solo vs a team are pretty rare, not that Gilbert had to do that this year, three pretty decent teams in that select group.

The Austrian championships suffered from the absence of Bernhard Eisel, who would have been the only HTC rider. Eisel said on Austrian TV that all the Continetal teams would just be out to beat him. He had no desire to race against an entire peloton.

Chavanel took off his sunglasses as he crossed the line, leaving the French fans as witnesses to the tears he shed. He had achieved his dream.

By my reckoning the 'double' has been done by Wiggins in GB and Brammeier in Ireland

    Is this a common achievement?

    Any others this week?

Think it's fantastic news that Wiggins has won the RR. RR & TT double. Good he'll be standing out for the tour in the champs jersey.

I'm abit of a wiggins fanboy anyway but its great that his going for these races. And well done for Sky making a race of it. They could have just decided before hand who is going to win and tear the field to shreds get the 'leader' to the finish.

I really hoped Vockler would have kept old of the french jersy. Really liked him and Viconti and french and national champs together. My fav type of riders! I like Chav as well but jsut prefer Vock :P

Does Wiggins count as a double? He's currently 2011 RR champ and 2010 TT champ. Unlike most other nations the UK TT champs are in september... I don't really see anyone beating him if he takes part, though

Pleased to see Wiggo got the jersey although I wanted Gee to retain it. Really pleased to see Gilbert get the nicest national jersey there is and then was bloody chuffed to see Chavanel get the tricolore, one of my favourite riders. Chapeau to all.
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.
  • Good win for Wiggo. He was strong as an ox all day, pulled for the thick end of 100 miles, and then put 35 seconds into G and Kennaugh in little more than 8 miles. The gulf between Sky and the rest was significant. Cav was unlucky to puncture right when the first, and decisive, cut was made. Fabulous day out.

Some great pics on Velo UK. Here:

    Seems my reckoning was wrong.

His recent time trial win was the 10 mile TT Championship in May 2011.

So no double for Wiggins (yet)

The British 24 hour time trial winner:

    Andy Wilkinson - 529.65 miles

    http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/Home/tabid/36/itemid/2555/Default.aspx

Thats more than 22mph average! Not sure if he gets to wear a champs jersey but chapeau to him.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

Yea some decent racing but out of all the winners, Chavanel showed the most class courage. He is deffo up there in my top 5 riders... I hope someone capped it in HD because I wouldn't mind watching it again..
